18-member Professional Fellows Delegation from Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia to Northwest Ohio!

The Professional Fellows are participants of “Sustaining Civic Participation in Minority Communities” in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the U.S.A. program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of the Educational and Cultural Affairs, locally organized by Great Lakes Consortium (GLC).

The Fellows are spending 6 weeks in the United States from April 19 through June 5, 2015 starting their program in Northwest Ohio before traveling to their internship sites around the U.S. For more information please visit the program website:  www.glc-teachdemocracy2.org

                                           Program Overview:
The Arts Council Lake Erie West (ACLEW) at Common Space and the Great Lakes Consortium for International Training and Development (GLC) will convene an informative workshop about global programs addressed to people in the fields of education, healthcare, agriculture, business development, handicrafts and entrepreneurship. The goal is to assist others to find the right avenues to use their knowledge and to help others internationally, in other words, to Pay It Forward. University students, young professionals and senior citizens alike are invited to attend the Pay It Forward Internationally (PIFI) Workshop on Friday, April 22, 2016, from 2:30am to 4:30 pm, and any of the Open House activities at the Common Space Center for Creativity, 1700 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo OH 43615
                    Program Details:

PIFI Workshop participants will learn about Pay It Forward Internationally opportunities to gain beneficial international experience, travel, hear first-hand accounts from individuals who have participated in international programs, connect with a network of U.S. mentors with resources and experience in their particular field, and receive a digital resource guide. The purpose of the PIFI Workshop is to disseminate information and address the interest and assess the need for further development of the ‘paying it forward internationally’ concept in order to develop a responsible and secure system for sustaining the concept in the Northwest Ohio area. Professionals with international experience will open the workshop at 2:30 pm with an overview of the PIFI concept and the nuts & bolts of venturing into foreign communities. Attendees will also learn about current international program opportunities. The World Café will provide direct networking opportunities with the 18 Professional Fellows in four areas: Education, Health & Wellness, Social Services and Global Entrepreneurship.

The Open House festivities include: an international potluck buffet with dishes prepared by the 18 Professional Fellows (by country) assembled with various potluck dishes guests are to bring; international wine tasting for those (of legal age) who bring wine to share and taste; a silent auction to benefit Common Space programs; a guest performance by the Toledo International Youth Orchestra; and most likely international folk dancing after hours. All Open House activities take place at Common Space from 4:30-8:00pm and reservations are encouraged as space is limited.
